The 7.92x24 FMJ-OGI-71-P cartridges.

The 7.92x24 mm cartridge is basically a PDW cartridge, which can be used in a pistol. This powerful cartridge provides a deep penetration for military use. However, for personal defense use the full power 7.92x24 mm cartridge dispose about some over-penetration. Based on the FBI criteria for personal defense ammunition, the preferred penetration depth for personal defense use is 18” (457 mm). The VBR-B 7.92x24 FMJ-OGI-71-Pistol cartridge is developed to push a .312 FMJ-OGI-71 bullet 18” depth in the calibrated ordinance gelatin fired out a 90 mm barrel. With a penetration depth of 18” (457 mm), the .312 FMJ-OGI-71 bullet is able to hit the vital organs of the adversary under any angle or regardless the obstructions of arms or legs. This reduced load is made to provide a economic solution with public safety ahead to prevent collateral damage by over-penetration.

Bare gelatin.

This preliminary test is done at close range with a 7.92x24 FMJ-OGI-71-P cartridge and a barrel length of 90 mm.

Gelatin block 1 callibration depth 4.5 mm steel BB : 5.3 cm @ 453 fp/sec.

Gelatin block 2 callibration depth 4.5 mm steel BB : 7.2 cm @ 483 fp/sec

In this test the .311 FMJ-OGI-71 grains bullet loaded on a 7.92x24 mm cases with a reduced Pistol charge and fired out a 90 mm long barrel at close range has reached a penetration depth of 485 mm (19"). Even with a short barrel of a pocket gun performs this cartridge excellent concerning drill performance. This cartridge is able to hit the vital organs deep in the body of the adversary . This performance for self defense is much more relaiable the this of the .32 ACP or 7.65 Browning cartridge.

Heavy clothing + block calibrated ordinance gelatin.

Heavy clothing composition : one layer leatherette jacket + one layer woolen pullover + one layer shirt + one layer T-shirt.

This preliminary test is done at close range with a 7.92x24 FMJ-OGI-71-P cartridge and a barrel length of 90 mm.

Gelatin block 1 callibration depth 4.5 mm steel BB : 7.2 cm @ 483 fp/sec

The .312 FMJ-OGI-71 bullet fired out the 7.92x24 cases with a pistol load and a barrel length of 90 mm at close range penetrates the 4 layers of heavy clothing and enters the block with the point forwards. After 170 mm bare gelatin the bullet start to tumble and yaws further to a depth of 255 mm where he is tumbled 180° base forwards. Then the bullet travel further in the gelatine to a depth of 520 mm ( 20”).

 2 x 1 mm steel + 2 layers cotton + gelatin.

The is a preliminary test composition derived of the FBI test protocol. The 2 x1 sheets of 20 gauge hot rolled steel test. The set-up is don’t with the materials which where available at the time.

2 sheets of 1 mm thick galvanized steel .

Set-up of 75 mm between the two sheets of 1 mm galvanized steel. 79.88 mm oversize dimension.

+ 2 layers of cotton + calibrated ordinance gelatin.

Fired out a 80 mm barrel at close range. 150 mm distance between the steel plates and the gelatin block.

 Gelatin block 1 callibration depth 4.5 mm steel BB : 5.3 cm @ 453 fp/sec.

After the penetration of the 2x1 mm steel plates and one layer of jeans, the .311 FMJ-OGI-71 bullet enters the gelatin block in a straight position point forwards. The bullet is expanded to a diameter of 9.9 mm.  The biggest disruption in the bullet path is 12 mm wide and is clearly visible over a distance of 170 mm. The bullet ends-up at a total depth of 320 mm or 12.59 inch.

The 7.92x24 FMJ-OGI-71-P cartridge can satisfy the requirements of the FBI ballistic test protocol and achieves in this test the requested 12 “ penetration depth.
