Fact is that there are a lot of 9x19 mm weapons is service al over the world en this to great satisfaction of his users. These 9x19 mm weapons need a new ammunition supply. Lot of governments consider an up-grade of there ammunition supply with armor piercing 9x19 mm cartridges! This up-grade will put the 9x19 mm caliber much longer in military service!
According to Mark MCFadden of the Picatinny Arsenal, the U.S. does not intend to replace its 9 mm system.
At first it is within NATO very difficult to find a consensus about a new standard PDW system this concerning politic, economic and logistic problems. If the most leading country in the NATO alliance, the U.S. haze not the intentions to replace the 9 mm, then the 9mm will not soon be replaced!
This is also the current situation. The 9x19 mm caliber is not yet abandoned by the Western Defense Alliance and a tiny small caliber haze not yet general replace the 9 mm caliber! Rather then replace the 9x19 mm caliber it is more likely that a new PDW caliber will companion the Western Defense Alliance. If this situation will extend, the 9 mm will stay in service like the .45 is still in service in the United States.
If the 9x19 mm caliber will stay longer in military use, this will cause problems concerning the PDW objectives of the NATO. The current PDW designs are not suitable to satisfy the CRISAT demands with the 9x19 mm caliber.
To use the 9x19 mm caliber to satisfy the CRISAT demands we need at first a serious 9x19 AP cartridge and a complete new PDW design.
