 Hi-Power 7.92 VBR-B Compact Minimize

The Experimental Hi-Power 7.92 VBR-B Compact.

World’s most famous handgun ready for modification...

The modification of world’s most famous handgun, the Browning Hi-Power to the 7.92 VBR-B calibre is rather  a symbolic act, which must be done to prove the flexibility of the VBR-Belgium ammunition technology. Regardless the fact that the Browning Hi-Power is an old-fashion handgun design, it still is in use in a lot of countries. Also a lot of companies manufacture a clone of a modified version of the old Hi-Power 35 model. The modification of the Hi-Power 7.92 VBR-B Compact is a starting point for the modification of all pistols based on the Hi-Power design.

Part of a new defense system...

Compaired to the 9x19 mm Hi-Power, the modified Hi-Power 7.92 VBR-B Compact can not compete with the low costs of the 9x19 FMJ NATO cartridge. The Hi-Power 7.92 VBR-B Compact haze other identites, which are aimed to the military goals of the future NATO defense weapons. The Hi-Power 7.92 VBR-B Compact is a part of a defense system, which is designed around the new PDW concept  and the higher efficency to penetrate CRISAT body armor at mid-range. This is a weak spot in the 9x19 mm caliber defense system, which can be solved by the 7.92 VBR-B caliber.

Motivation.

The biggest motivation to use a Hi-Power 7.92 VBR-B Compact is as a secondary weapon in combination with a 7.92 VBR-B caliber submachine gun or a PDW. The goal of the Hi-Power 7.92 VBR-B Compact replacement set is to provide the widely spread Hi-Power pistol with the possibility to use a new PDW round. If governments choose for a new PDW or SMG in order to satisfy the NATO CRISAT demands a secondary weapon in the same caliber also satisfy the NATO requirements and prevents ammunition supply problems.

Comparison between the 9x19 mm and the 7.92 VBR-B Compact cartridge.

 The 9x19 FMJ cartridge.

The 9x19 FMJ NATO cartridge is the most spread cartridge around the world. Almost all ammunition companies manufacture this cartridge for a low price. Only the 9x19 FMJ is inefficient against body armor. This makes this cartridge unsuitable for military use.

The 9x19 AP7 VBR-B cartridge.

The 9x19 AP7 VBR-B cartridge is able to comply with the CRISAT demands of the NATO. The 9 AP 7 bullet uses a 7 mm sub-caliber penetrator to penetrate CRISAT body armor. At a bare target and soft body armor the bullet causes a big wound cavity content by his tumbling 9 mm bullet. At CRISAT body armor the 9AP7 bullet haze a core / sabot separation and penetrates only the CRISAT body armor with the 7 mm penetrator. The 9 mm sabot and his energy get lost on the body armor.

The VBR-B 7.92 APC  cartridges.

The VBR-B 7.92 APC cartridges have a shorter point with a bigger angel then the 9x19 AP 7 cartridge. This reduces the drill performance. The 7.92 APC 6 bullet uses a 6 mm sub-caliber penetrator to penetrate CRISAT body armor. The 7.92 APC 6 cartridge is able to comply with the CRISAT demands of NATO even when this cartridge is fired out a short barrel from a pocket pistol. Bigger penetrators are possible.

The advantages of the HI-Power 7.92 VBR-B Compact v.s. the 9x19 mm HP.

  • The lower recoil of the 7.92 VBR-B Compact cartridge is an important advantage for the accuracy and fire control of recruits, which have no shooting experience or are verry recoil sensitive. The lower recoil reduces muzzle jump and increases the accuracy of multiple shots.
  • The smaller bottom dimensions increasing the magazine capacity to 15 rounds instead of 13 rounds. This brings the magazine capacity to the current minimum level which is mostly demanded for military use.

  •
The barrel.

The C.I.P. international homologation of the 7.92 VBR-B caliber will be soon completed. The chamber reamers to manufacture the 7.92 VBR-B caliber barrel can be ordered at our Supply Store  info@vbr-belgium.be

 The cartridge extractor.

The grip of the standard cartridge extractor on the 7.92 VBR-B cartridges is too small. The standard cartridge extractor must be modified so that he gets deeper in the extractor grove of the 7.92 VBR-B cases.

The magazine.

Although the standard 9x19 mm magazine can be used to test the Browning Hi-Power in the 7.92 VBR-B Compact caliber, the cartridge sits very high in the magazine. For a good function of the Hi-Power 7.92 a new magazine must be made special for the 7.92 VBR-B Compact cartridge.

Advantages of the Hi-Power  7.92 VBR-B Compact

* Lower recoil then the 9x19 mm caliber.
* Higher magazine capacity then the 9x19 mm caliber (15 rounds).
* Higher stopping power then the small PDW calibers 4.6x30 mm, 5.7x28 mm
  or 5.45x17 mm.
* Suitable for pocket pistol models.
* Suitable for PDWs.
