I’m interested in additional information about your PDW project.
For example, I’m puzzled by the sights.

The sights of the VBR-B PDW Sidearm 1.
Basic configuration.
The VBR-B PDW Sidearm 1 with a Picatinny rail, Red point and experimental open sight.
At first, the VBR-B PDW Sidearm 1 dates from the year 2001 and was made to support our 9x19 AP 5.7 mm ammunition project. It was special developed with the objective to provide a candidate to replace the 9x19 mm Hi-Power pistol from the Belgian Army.
Like you describe in your comments on your website, also my conclusion at that time was a higher need for a compact PDW with dimensions closer to this of a standard pistol.
To my opinions, the PDW must be a compact weapon which can replace “all functions” of the standard pistol, including carrying as a sidearm in a holster. To provide a practical use for our VBR-B PDW Sidearm 1 we needed a practical low-height sight, which fits easy in a holster.
To achieve this I have provided the loading handle housing with a swallow-tail guiding.

The advantage of the this swallow -tail guiding is a lower weight, a lot lower height and lower production costs then a standard Picatinny rail. To provide a standard mount for other sights we dispose about a special Picatinny rail, which fits on the swallow -tail.
On the standard Picatinny rail you can put different types of sights like Red dots, holo sights and others...
For so fare there is nothing different whith other types of mounts and other standard sights. Only we have one problem. We dispose about a small PDW, which can be carried in a holster, concealed behind enemy lines or in every other way like a standard pistol, but with the standard Red dot or holo sight we can not have a quick draw and a fast aiming to fire.
( Holster was not available. The pocket of the pants works also fine )
All optical sights, red dots or holo sights are provided with a plastic cap for protection. Before you like to use them you must remove the protection cap or switch the aiming device on. This is a very unpractical situation especially for personal defense use. The current military pistols are not provided with red dots or other devices …, they are provided with a three dot open sight!

Experimental open sight for pistol like PDWs
So, to get closer to the pistol use, I started the investigation to develop an other type of sight, which allows a practical use for all defense situations typical for a small PDW . I suppose that this experimental sight is the cause of your puzzling?
This white 3-dot sight allows a fast aiming just like the 3-dot sight from a pistol, without the obstruction of plastic protection caps or switches, which must first put on before you can use the aiming device.
The rest of the sight is still under development. At the right side we providing a small optical sight with a small magnification of X4 with a standard thread cross and on the left side we providing a small red dot sight. These small type of aiming devices exist already and are provide for the use at midrange. This experimental sight can be compared with the standard sight of the G 36 assault rifle, only this version is provided with an open white 3-dot sight.

Future?
The NATO objectives for the future PDWs are one of constant changing’s? From the starting point of a simple handgun to a PDW with a practical range to 100 meters in the year 1993. Meany NATO officials see the future PDW as a primary weapon around an armored vehicle. The current requirements of the PDW go to a practical range to 200 meters. No pistol size PDW can achieve these performances with a short barrel. So, according the NATO objectives a short pistol size PDW with special pistol sights have no future!.....??? We will see?
Fact is that the short barrel PDW outperforms the standard military pistol!
With the compact dimensions of the VBR-B PDW Sidearm, many Paratroopers, Infantryman, Special Forces, Security personal and even Personal self defense users can increase there firepower with this pistol size PDW!
