Denomination : Caliber 7.92 x 24 mm
Synonyms : 7.92 VBR-B or 7.92 VBR
The 7.92 VBR-B cartridge has a barrel diameter of a .30 caliber with as dimensions 7.62 / 7.83 mm. However our special bullet points filled with plastic require a diameter larger the usual .308 bullets. More suitable are the bullet diameters from +/- 7.90 mm. These bullet diameters are comparable with the bullet diameters which are used for the .32 of 7.65 ACP.
The FMJ bullet form which satisfied the most to our acceptations was the Tournament Master from Sierra with as diameter .312 of 7.92 mm.
According the usual denomination method we could use .32 VBR or 7.65 VBR. A smooth general denomination like a “7.65 PDW” would cause too much confusion with the caliber 7.65 ACP.
New calibers use more and more the dimension of the bullet diameter to prevent confusion with old calibers. You don’t call a 5.7x28 mm a .22.
Hence also the choice to call this caliber to the largest bullet diameter which is suitable for this caliber , this is 7.92 mm
The case length is 24 mm with as a consequence an eventual denomination of 7.92x24 mm.
7.62x24 mm: The headstamp 7.62x24 is already in use by an other manufacture.
7.92x24,5 mm: The headstamp 7.92x24.5 is already in use by an other manufacture.
The 7.92x24 mm caliber is a PDW caliber which must not be confused with the 7.92 rifle calibers like the 7.92 Mauser and a lot of other 7.92 rifle calibers.
The 7.92x24 mm is a unique caliber.
